In a May 26 article about an interview with Sen. John McCain, the Associated Press reported that McCain said that he and Sen. Barack Obama should visit Iraq together and quoted McCain claiming that he would “seize that opportunity to educate Senator Obama along the way.” Source
Obama’s trip is expected to be divided into two parts. He will travel to Iraq for the first time since January 2006 and to Afghanistan for the first time ever as part of an official delegation, paid for by taxpayers. He also will travel to other stops in Europe and the Middle East as a presidential candidate, paid for by campaign dollars. Source
Hope for Iraq has been formally abandoned by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, DNC Chairman Howard Dean, and much of the rest of the Democratic Party. They aligned themselves with defeatism behind Barack Obama, a man who paradoxically built his appeal on empty platitudes and promises of withdrawing from a failed Iraqi state.
Iraq has changed considerably, and while not pacified, it is certainly moving rapidly towards stability. The Iraqi people have left Barack Obama to bitterly cling to an Iraq that no longer exists, as a candidate unable to accept change or provide hope. Source
B. Hussein should have gone to Iraq with McCain. They both have opposite views on the war and a joint trip may have been educational to both of them. I however believe that we are winning and should stay the course. To do otherwisw would be folly.
I don’t believe Obama will seperate the 2 issues, fact finding and campaigning but will use Iraq and Afghanistan as a stage for more photo ops and grandstanding and the mainstream press will eat it up.
Obama has already stated his position on Iraq and if he sees any success, let’s watch the spin. Let’s see him stand in front of the 1200 troops that re-enlisted because they felt they were making a difference and tell them it was all in vain as he, Pelosi and Reid want them to pick up and leave.

Why is Barack Obama in Afghanistan ? Are politics that important ? That you have to put your life on the line, to prove to the world, or mostly the American public, that by visiting Afghanistan, you’ll leave there with more knowledge of war and be a better Commander in Chief. C’mon…
I find it a little reckless and disturbing that *Senator* Barack Obama has been egged on to travel to the Middle East and put his life and the future of America, in danger.
