Making the Tough Choices

As I sit here watching the debate go back and forth on whether or not to raise the debt ceiling, I wonder why we, as American citizens, have allowed things to get this messed up. It baffles me how us ordinary people got so apathetic towards our government, that we, or at least I did, just trusted that the people elected in Washington in the various offices were doing their jobs to the best of their abilities and were naturally putting the best welfare of the people before anything else.
