The first night of the Democrat and Republican Conventions are in the book. On the surface, there were more folks watching the Democrats on Night One than the Republicans. For both, it was a smaller audience as a “virtual convention” than it was four years ago. Now, that shouldn’t surprise anybody, and it shouldn’t surprise anybody that more Democrats watched, since there are typically more Democrats than Republicans. As we look at the numbers, make sure that you take a look not only at 2020, but go back through 2016, 2012, and 2008 as well. In each of those years, Democrat viewership topped Republican viewership.

As you can see when you take a look, Fox News came out ahead with the GOP, no real surprise there. In second place was CNN, followed by ABC, NBC, MSNBC, and trailing the field again was CBS. The overall audience for Republicans was about…
