For survivors of the Beslan school siege of 2004, the fifteenth anniversary of the terror attack is bittersweet. The child hostages are now grown up. Their choices, professional and personal, speak volumes of the trauma they experienced and their desire to choose good over evil. But they still live with the memories of family members lost in the attack. The security forces who rescued them experience survivors’ guilt as they remember comrades who died in the assault. Former child hostages and a ‘Spetsnaz’ officer recount their memories and head back to Beslan to meet up in the school sports hall, where their horrific experience began.
